August Meeting Notes

Hello Everyone!

What a way to end our summer!!

Sixteen friends and 2 guests joined together for a night of laughs and celebration at Olive Garden, Friday night, August 27th. We had good fun, good laughs and lots of good conversation. For those of our friends not able to be there, we missed you. For those that were able to come, we are glad you made it...safe and sound...it was pouring during our arrival time. The power even went out in the restaurant for a little while but didn't affect our meals. YUM!!

We did make some decisions for future meetings. For our September meeting, we will be meeting at Shelley's house on Friday, September 24th at 6:30 p.m. We will continue with our Study Book, Bad Girls of the Bible, Ch. 5. Susan W, Louise L, Lynn S and Sandy L agreed to help with the food for the evening. (Sidenote, since this discussion, Susan W has indicated she is not available to help for Sept. Would someone else like to change places with Susan for this month?)

Lisa B informed the Circle of a potential project. She stated there is a mom in Lee County with 4 young children whose husband recently passed away from an asthma attack. The story had been recently featured in the News-Press . The family has hit upon some hard times in that her husband had been unemployed for the past couple years due to decline in the housing market. The husband was a journeyman electrician. She works in the hospitality field and her hours have also been cut. The family recently lost their home and have been struggling to make ends meet. Because they did not have extra funds for asthma medication, her husband passed away following an episode. Discussion was held that our Circle, along with any other members of the church, would offer donations of food, clothes or funds. Lisa B will contact the family to get more details. (Since our meeting, we have been collecting donations and Lisa B has been giving them to the family. Lisa B will continue to accept and deliver donations. Let her know if you are able to help.)

July Minutes

CIRCLE OF HOPE MINUTES – July 30, 2010 – 7pm – Shelley Bumm’s house

Wow, what a great time we had!! We had lots of food, fun, and laughs. Twenty of us came together at Shelley’s house to celebrate the summer with a wonderful BBQ cooked by John Wilson and coordinated by Donna Wilson. (I believe it was one of the biggest meetings we have had yet.) Homemade dishes rounded out the yummy steak and potatoes. (We sure have great cooks among us.) All we know is that not only does John have a beautiful singing voice, he can sure grill also. Thank you so much to the Wilson’s (and to Beth Caangay…you know why!) and all of those who helped to make the evening truly special. It felt really good to laugh!!

But we sure missed those few who were not able to make the meeting. We also had one returning Circle member (Jean Riley) and welcomed a new member (Sandy Lane). We are happy to have both of you in our group!!!

In spite of being totally stuff and laughing and talking constantly, we accomplished a lot. We decided our final summer outing would be on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 6:30ish at Olive Garden. An R.S.V.P. is required by August 15^th so that we can reserve space. This is our last meeting of the summer and is just a social event. Please join us!!!

Our September meeting will be held on Friday, September 24th, 7pm at Shelley’s. We will “attempt” to discuss Ch 5 in our Book “Bad Girls of the Bible” as well as ideas for the Rummage Sale. Susan, Kim, Louise, and Lynn S will be handling the food.

Our October meeting will be held on Friday, October 22^nd, 7pm at Beth Caangay’s. We will be discussing Ch 6 in our book and any other items that come about. Tina, Jean, Lisa and Sandy will be planning the meal for this month.

We even planned our November meeting for Friday, November 19^th, 7pm at Whitney Bryant’s. We will enjoy Ch 7 of our book while fellowshipping on a meal provided by Lynn L, Sarah, and Donna W.

Our 4^th Annual Christmas Brunch will be held on Saturday, December 4^th, time TBA at LouAnne’s. This will include our Chinese auction with Tina and Lisa providing the auctioneering services. After a lively bidding session, the proceeds will go towards the church’s Compassion Fund. Everyone is asked to bring a brunch dish to share. Come taste some yummy dishes.

IMPORTANT REQUEST! Due to the size of our group and our members providing the meals, we are asking that everyone please RSVP as much as possible. You can do it by email to me or can call me on my cell at; you can tell Shelley, Tina, Susan or myself at church, or you can call the church office at 239/936-2200. As you know, it is really difficult to plan meals when you are not sure of how many friends to expect. The more friends, the merrier, but we would like to make sure there is enough food for everyone. Thank you so much for your consideration with this request.

Whitney reminded everyone that OUR CiRCLE has its own blog. (Thanks, Whit)Check it out! We have a video of our Circle performance in church a few months ago. Believe it or not, we have been asked to sing again. We will be updating the blog on a more regular basis now so mark it as one of your favorites and visit often!!

Hey, did you know the church has a website also? It is: www.wesleymemumc.com . Check it out, save as a favorite, and pass it along. We are using this avenue for reaching others instead of the newspaper ad.

As you can see, not only did we accomplish a lot, we shared laughs, joys, concerns and tears. Many of our Circle Friends are going through difficult times and prayers were said (and felt) for them. Many of our friends are experiencing joys in their lives and we rejoiced with them. This is what a Circle is all about. You are never alone! The joys, blessings, pains, hurts, and disappointments are lessened by having a Circle of friends around you (especially a Circle of Hope!). Please mark your calendars and join us for food, fun and fellowship in the months to come.

Old Business: Thanked Renee for a great job at the night meeting. Also to LouAnne for playing.

new Business:
*Yard Sale Sat March 6thEveryone should plan to be there by 7:30 am. Carter will have tables in narthex. We will need to move outside and set up. Things already sent in are priced. Anyone interested can help Friday night with anything that has come in during the week. Tina can't be there until 4:30 pm. Decided not to have any food this time. Any clothes left will go to Max who will get them to Haiti.Any kitchen things will go to Foster Care transition out (I know that's not what its called but can't think of it)The rest will go to Salvation Army or Goodwill
*We will be singing in the future during the service and it was decided Barry Manilow's Copa Cabana will be done with words changed of course. We have a few lines down and Shelley and Tina will continue to work on the rest.Sorry, Marji, you and I will have to stay in back for dance moves!
Other notes:
*decided to scrap our study since many weren't present. Gives those of you who haven't read it yet extra time.

*Had some much needed relaxation and great laughter. Sorry some of you missed it.Hope to see you in March. We will work on Mother-Daughter banquet things. As well as our song. I for one am most impressed that Whitney has done this for our Circle!!! Thank you so much Whitney. It will be a great way to stay updated within our group and post amazing life happenings or share our hurts and sorrow. Just getting back from an awesome Youth Fat Tuesday dinner - way to go youth and adult leaders(our very own Renee cooked - yummy, not her mac and cheese which is super yummy - but zit -yummy). love you guys!

Hello Ladies,
I thought we can use this site to share thoughts, ideas, recopies, pictures, news, minutes, and whatever other information we can think of.

Posting is easy. All you have to do is sign in (at the very top right of the screen.) Use the email and password you received in your email. This will bring you to the “dashboard.” Just hit the blue “new post” and away you go. You can upload videos, pictures, link websites, and do many different things. Feel free to play with it.

Few things to be careful of: When posting make sure you are using the “COMPOSE” tab and not the “edit HTML.” It will get you all confused…it did me. Also when you go to view your posting then want to change it, you have to go back into postings, and then hit edit.

When you are done, make sure to sign it- since we are not able to tell who is posting. If you have any questions call me or email me.

Use it often and check it often!!
